More power for the raspberry pi

When I connected more USB devices: usb camera, klipperScreen - the system started shutting down sporadicly. More often when I tried to open the camera tab in the klipper ui or on klipperScreen. Klipper log had just this message as a last one before shutdown: lost communication with mcu 'beacon'

Then I realized that rpi + extension board had all USB ports used and found that it has just 1.2A max output among all ports. The extension hat which ratrig provides is Waveshare USB 3.2 Gen1 HUB HAT - it has one USB-C port for 5v power only.

I had an unused USB-A to USB-C power-only cable (just 2 pins) and buck stepDown converter to use main 24v power supply as an input. It’s mini360 dc-dc converter which takes 4-24v and converts it to 1-17v output. It has max current of 3A but recommended is 1.8A which I believe more than enough to power up the extension board ports. We just need 3 pins on the buck converter: ground is common for input and output, VO+ - output positive, IN+ - input positive.

Converter has a variable potentioneter to configure output voltage which I don’t really like, but it also has a predefined fixed voltage settings - you just need to bridge 2 pins and cut the ADJ path on the board - it disables potentiometer and uses fixed output voltage. I checked output voltage with multimiter - it was precise enough ~5.02v. fixed 5v output

Then I printed a small box for the buck converter to isolate open pins and to do some cable management.

This is the result: Buck converter in the box Buck converter in the box 2
